Regular Season Round 13: Humacao - Coamo 75-81

Date: May 7, 2011
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked Caciques (7-8) lost to seventh ranked Maratonistas (7-9) in Humacao 75-81 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 25-16 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Maratonistas outrebounded Caciques 55-32 including a 22-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international center Manuel Antonio Narvaez (211-81, college: S.Nazarene, agency: Paris Global Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 12 points and 27 rebounds for the winning side and American-Lebanese forward Matt Freije (207-81, college: Vanderbilt, agency: Priority Sports) accounted for 35 points (!!!). Maratonistas' coach Pedro Cintron used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. American power forward Ivan Johnson (203-84, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) came up with 23 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Caciques in the defeat. Despite that victory Maratonistas went down to eighth position due to points difference. Caciques lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Arecibo. Maratonistas will meet league's leader Vaqueros in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Caciques will play against Indios (#10) in Mayaguez and hope to secure a win.
