There was a surprise result when tenth ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (4-28) won against at home higher ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (21-11) 105-96 on Wednesday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-19. But Rayos de Hermosillo won second period 40-34. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pioneros Los Mochis won last quarter 24-16. Strangely Rayos de Hermosillo outrebounded Pioneros Los Mochis 48-30 including a 20-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. American guard Detrick White (184-76, college: Mississippi St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Guard Juan Favela (183-91) contributed with 27 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward Lorrenzo Wade (198-85, college: San Diego St.) replied with 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 4 assists and his fellow American import forward Terrance Thomas (198-80, college: Baylor) added 10 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Rayos de Hermosillo. Four Pioneros Los Mochis and five Rayos de Hermosillo players scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis maintains tenth position with 4-28 record. Rayos de Hermosillo at the other side keeps the third place with 11 games lost. Pioneros Los Mochis will face higher ranked Coras de Tepic (#9) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Rayos de Hermosillo will play against Tijuana Zonkeys (#8).
