Regular Season Round 18: Quebradillas - Arecibo 86-93

There was an upset when second-best Quebradillas (12-8) were defeated at home by sixth ranked Capitanes (11-9) 93-86 on Tuesday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Quebradillas won second period 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was international guard Larry Ayuso (190-77, college: USC, agency: Global Sports Plaza) who scored 39 points (!!!). International guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was international center Peter John Ramos (222-85) who recorded a double-double by scoring 29 points and 17 rebounds and the former international guard Rick Apodaca (192-80, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively. Five Quebradillas players scored in double figures. Capitanes have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with San German. Loser Quebradillas keep the second position with eight games lost. Capitanes will face Indios (#9) in Mayaguez in the next round. Quebradillas will play at home against Indios (#9) in Mayaguez.
