Regular Season Round 18: Guayama - Mayaguez 78-86
Date: May 24, 2011
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams in Isabela where tenth ranked Indios (7-13) defeated bottom-ranked Gallitos (7-15) 86-78 on Tuesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Gallitos won third quarter 19-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Indios made 20-of-25 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Indios outrebounded Gallitos 39-24 including 25 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Gallitos' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Indios made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was guard Carlos Rivera (187-83, college: Hofstra, agency: Paris Global Sports) who scored 27 points, 8 assists and 5 steals (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!). American forward Brandon Robinson (202-81, college: Auburn, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 9 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Shavlik Randolph (208-83, college: Duke) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds and naturalized American guard Darnell Hinson (186-80, college: Northeastern St.) added 18 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Indios moved-up to ninth place. Gallitos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 15 games lost. Indios will face higher ranked Capitanes (#6) in Arecibo in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
