Quarter-Finals Round 3: Tijuana - Cananea 88-102

Date: May 28, 2011
Cananea celebrated the third straight win over Tijuana. It looked good early as Tijuana Zonkeys took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mineros de Cananea had a 28-21 second period charge getting the lead and Tijuana Zonkeys were not able to take back game control losing it eventually 88-102. Strangely Tijuana Zonkeys outrebounded Mineros de Cananea 39-20 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a good game for American forward Brandon Brown (201-85, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) who led his team to a victory with 37 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Derek Thomas (193-84, college: Appalachian St.) contributed with 26 points and 8 assists for the winners. Brown is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Mineros de Cananea's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American power forward Cyrus Tate (203-85, college: Iowa, agency: Edge Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds (on 17-of-22 shooting from the field) and Canadian guard Jermaine Watson (193-81, college: Boston Coll., agency: KMG Sports Management) added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for Tijuana Zonkeys.
