Guaymas avoided elimination by beating Guasave at home court in Game 5. The hosts were already 22 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 28-15 Frayles de Guasave's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 94-85 at the end of the game. Ostioneros de Guaymas players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Craig Winder (188-84, college: Texas, agency: Prossin Sports Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 30 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Jerome Habel (208-85, college: San Diego St.) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 17 rebounds for the winners.
