Very important is a home loss of third ranked Cangrejeros (14-11) against seventh ranked Caciques (11-14) on Saturday night. Host Cangrejeros were defeated by Caciques in Santurce 95-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cangrejeros. Cangrejeros were ahead by 8 points at the halftime before a 36-12 third quarter run of Caciques. They outrebounded Cangrejeros 47-31 including 32 on the defensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Caciques brought some defensive toughness making 10 blocks. American power forward Ivan Johnson (203-84, college: Cal.St.-San Bernar.) scored 35 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) chipped in 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side international power forward Ricky Sanchez (212-87, college: High School) responded with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks and international power forward Angelo Reyes (205-81) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Caciques maintains seventh position with 11-14 record. Cangrejeros at the other side keep the third place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Arecibo. Caciques will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Cangrejeros will play on the road against the league's leader Vaqueros having rather not much hope for a victory.
