Finals Game 1: Cholet - Nancy 74-76
Date: June 11, 2011
Nancy is the new champion of France. They grabbed 74-76 thriller win against Cholet in the Big Final, which was played at the Bercy arena in Paris. The game was tied at 74-74, when John Linehan (175-78, college: Providence) made a basket for Nancy with 3 seconds to go. The defending champion was unable to score in their last possession and they stayed without the trophy this season. Nancy won the title also in 2008. Nancy took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-20. But Cholet won second period 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. As mentioned above, the game was decided in the finish and Linehan was a hero. He was also named MVP of the Big Final. Nancy made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Strangely Cholet outrebounded Sluc Nancy 41-28 including a 16-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Sluc Nancy especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. American guard John Linehan stepped up and scored 15 points and 4 assists for the winners and naturalized Cameroonian forward Victor Samnick (203-79, college: Georgetown) chipped in 15 points. Five Sluc Nancy players scored in double figures. At the losing side Dominican guard Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) responded with 15 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) and American guard DeMarcus Nelson (193-85, college: Duke) scored 15 points. Cholet's coach Erman Kunter rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Nancy was No.2 in regular season with 21-9 record. They eliminated Hyeres-Toulon in the Quarterfinals (2-1) and ASVEL in the Semis (2-1).
