Regular Season Round 26: Humacao - Coamo 81-86

Date: June 17, 2011
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Humacao where 7th ranked Caciques (13-16) were defeated by eighth ranked Maratonistas (12-18) 86-81 on Friday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 8-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-81. The best player for the winners was guard Johwen Villegas (193-85, college: FIU) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. point guard Nick Leon (180-88, college: St.Peter's) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). The former international guard Miguel Ali Berdiel (198-83, college: Valparaiso, agency: Paris Global Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and American swingman James Maye (201-81, college: NC-Greensboro) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Maratonistas maintains eighth position with 12-18 record. Loser Caciques keep the seventh place with 16 games lost. Maratonistas will meet at home higher ranked Mets (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Caciques will play against the league's leader Vaqueros (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
