Puerto Rico made it in Day One of the U16 FIBA Americas championship. They handed 78-68 loss to Mexico, who is the host of this event (Cancun). Both teams are together with Canada and Chile placed to Group A. Puerto Rico did a great job in the first quarter making 9-26 lead. They increased it to 24-44 until he halftime and Mexico was in deep trouble. However, they didn't give up and tried to catch up for rest of the game, but they didn't make it (27-23, 17-11). Ariel Watson was a key player for the hosts with 21 points and 11 rebounds. He reached valuation 26 and was the MVP of this game. Miguel Cartagena scored 18 and Eliel Gonzalez helped with 11 pts, plus 5 rebs. Jaime Villalobos replied with 19 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. David Elias and Jose Hermosillo (6 rebs) netted 12 and 10 pts respectively. In Day Two, Puerto Rico will meet Puerto Rico will play against Canada, while Mexico will try to grab the first win against Mexico.
