Preliminary Round Day 2: MOROCCO - SENEGAL 65-79

With defeat steering them in the face Senegal rose to the challenege to subdue Morocco in the last quarter of its group-D tie of the 26th FIBA Africa Championship for Men. The high tempo game began with both side matching each other wit for wit as the first quarter ended 18 points apiece but it was Morocco who took the initiative in the second quarter with a 25-11 points win to go into the break with a 43-29 points lead. Moroccos effort at sustaining the tempo was meet with stiff opposition from the Senegalese who knows the importance of winning a first group game, Morocco lost the quarter by 11-24 points as Senegal narrow the margin to just one point going into the last quarter. The strong determination of the Senegalese side coached by Alain Weisz came to the fore when El-Hadji Ndoye took a three pointer in the opening seconds of the last quarter to put the Lions ahead for the first time in the game, the lead was all they needed as motivation as they never looked back through the buzzer claiming the quarter by 11-26 points for a final score-line of 65-79 points. Ndoye led the floor with 23 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, Mouhammad Faye added 17 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists with Malick Badiane grabbing a double double of 14 points and 11 rebounds. *By Olusegun Ikuesan
