Brazil celebrated in Day One of the FIBA Americas Championship 2011. They handed 92-83 loss to Venezuela for 1-0 score in Group A. Brazil had five players with double-digits in scoring yesterday. Tiago Splitter was the leading one with 17 points, plus he had 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Marcelinho Huertas (7 as) and Guilherme Giovannoni (6 rebs) had 16 points each, Alex Ribeiro scored 15 and Marcelo Magalhaes had 11 pts. In Venezuela, Greivis Vasquez responded with 26 points and 7 assists. Gregory Echenique (7 rebs) and David Cubillan posted 12 and 11 points respectively. Their team has 0-1 now. Participants of Group A are also Cuba, Dominican Republic and Canada. Quarters: 25-26, 14-18, 27-25, 26-14. Brazil will play against Canada today. Venezuela will take on strong Dominican Republic.
