Quarter-Finals Day 8: BRAZIL - ARGENTINA 73-71

Brazil handed Argentina its first loss of the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament for the Americas, beating the host team 73-71 on Wednesday behind 19 points from Rafael Hettsheimer. Both teams have 5-1 record now and Puerto Rico has the same numbers. All three teams, together with Dominican Republic, already booked a spot for the Semifinals. As mentioned above, Hettsheimer scored 19 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in this meeting. Marcelinho Huertas had 17 points, Marquinhos Vieira scored 14 and Guilherme Giovannoni helped Brazilians with 13 points, plus 8 boards. Luis Scola led Argentina (5-1) with 24 points and 11 rebounds, and Manu Ginobili had 14. Pablo Prigioni added 13 points and 5 assists. Argentina won its first six games and was the last unbeaten team in the tournament before losing to Brazil (5-1). "They played well," Argentina coach Julio Lamas said of Brazil. "They were fair winners. We are teams that know each other, and they guarded us very well." Argentina will meet Dominican Republic in the last game of the Quarterfinals Round. Brazil will play against Puerto Rico.
