Second Stage Day 2: PHILIPPINES - JAPAN 83-76

Philippines handed Japan the first defeat at the Asian Championship in Wuhan. Marcus Douthit stepped up with 25 points and 18 rebounds to pace the winners to the victory. Philippines improved at 3-1 record and caught up with Japan in the ladder of Group F. Philippines surged ahead 8:2 early in the game but Japan quickly stopped the rot. They capped the term on a 12:0 run to take a 23:18 lead. Japan maintained the lead throughout the second frame. They ensured a 40:34 advantage at halftime. Philippines needed a 12:1 run in the third term to return the lead. Marcus Douthit and Marcio Lassiter ensured a 60:52 advantage for Philippines with ten minutes to go. Marcus Douthit gave Philippines a double-digit lead at the start of the fourth frame. Japan cut it back to only 5 points with seven minutes remaining. However Philippines never allowed their opponents any closer in the reminder of the encounter. Jimmy Alapag and Marcio Lassiter provided 15 points each in the victory. Joji Takeuchi answered with 22 points and 8 rebounds for Japan. Takeki Shonaka netted 14 points in the loss.
