Philippines recorded the third straight win at the Second Stage of Asian Championship. They overcame Syria to enter the quarterfinal stage from the second position in Group F. Philippines will now take on Taiwan in the playoffs. Syria slipped at 1-4 record and would play in the classification round for 9th-12th place. Philippines looked slightly better in the opening frame. They eked out a 14:11 lead after ten minutes. But Syria turned things upside down in the second frame. Goran Miljevic team surged ahead for a 32:23 halftime lead. They maintained the lead for some time in the third term before Philippines pulled their noses back in front. Philippines registered a 49:45 lead with ten minutes to go. They opened the fourth term on a 15:0 run to clear off for good in this one. Marcus Douthit stepped up with 20 points for Philippines. Christopher Tiu and Ranidel deOcampo added 8 points each in the win. AbAbd Al Wahab Hamowi responded with 11 points for Syria. Eder Arjo Gorges provided 9 points and 8 rebounds in the loss.
