UAE claimed a narrow win over Malaysia in the Asian Championship classification round. Rashed Al Zaabi scored 21 points, grabbed 6 rebounds and issued 4 assists to lead the winners. UAE will now take on Syria for the 9th overall position at the tournament. Malaysia will face Uzbekistan in the final game in China. The teams stayed close throughout the first half. UAE eked out a 24:23 lead after ten minutes of action. But Malaysia pulled in front for a narrow 38:37 lead at the interval. Malaysia stretched the gap midway through the third term. However UAE bounced back posting a 64:59 lead at the final intermission. UAE opened an 11-point lead in the fourth period 72:61. Malaysia answered with a 7:0 run to narrow the margin. Shee Fai Loh drained a triple to drag Malaysia within just one point 87:88 with 8 seconds remaining in regulation. Rashed Al Zaabi answered with just one free throw but Malaysia ran out of time for an answer and UAE ran away with victory at the end. Ali Al Hattawi accounted for 20 points, while Ibrahim Ahmad added 16 points for the winners. Li Wei Chee answered with 18 points and 19 rebounds for Malaysia. Shee Fai Loh provided 15 points in the loss.
