Regular Season Round 1: Gent Dragons - Liege 74-77
Date: October 1, 2011
Very significant was Belgacom Liege's (#6) just 3-point road victory against 4th placed Optima Gent. Optima Gent was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Optima Gent won fourth quarter 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Belgacom Liege made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. American forward Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) nailed 18 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import center Len Matela (206-80, college: Bowling Green, agency: Interperformances) accounted for 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Belgacom Liege players scored in double figures. Belgacom Liege's coach Fulvio Bastianini allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American-Puerto Rican guard Richard Chaney (196-84, college: Troy) came up with 18 points and 9 rebounds and American center Graham Brown (205-84, college: Michigan) added 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Optima Gent in the defeat. It was the only win of guest team this round and in all other games host teams recorded victories. Belgacom Liege (1-0) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Aalstar and Oostende. Optima Gent at the other side still closes the standings with one game lost. They share the position with Leuven and M.Hainaut.
