Rather expected game when 5th ranked Ponce L. (7-10) was rolled over on the road by second ranked Juncos V. (10-3) 99-66 on Wednesday. The game was mostly controlled by Juncos V.. Ponce L. was better in third quarter 27-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Juncos V. dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Ponce L.'s 46. They outrebounded Ponce L. 52-37 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Juncos V. looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Monique McClean (180-87, college: St.John's) who scored 24 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. Canady J. chipped in a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Judianna Batiz who recorded 22 points and Senegalese forward Marie Rosche (188-87, college: Dayton) added 8 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Juncos V. have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-3 record having just one point less than leader Morovis M. Loser Ponce L. keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Juncos V. will face Guaynabo M. (#6) in the next round. Ponce L. will play against Carolina G. and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
