Regular Season Round 5: Wulfen - Schwelm 74-68

Very important is a road loss of third ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (3-2) against fourth ranked BSV Wulfen (4-1) on Saturday night. Visiting SG Schwelmer Baskets were defeated by BSV Wulfen in a tough game in Wulfen 68-74. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of SG Schwelmer Baskets. It was a key game for the second position in Group North. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 17-10. But SG Schwelmer Baskets won second period 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was American forward Dijon Smith (203-89, college: Ft.Hays State) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). His fellow American import guard Steve Briggs (178-85, college: Okla.Wesleyan) chipped in 18 points. BSV Wulfen's coach Thorsten Morzuch used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Jason Holmes (191-86, college: Le Moyne) produced 26 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) and naturalized American forward Kristofer Speier (206-81, college: Lewis-Clark) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. BSV Wulfen moved-up to second place in Group North. Loser SG Schwelmer Baskets dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with SU Medien and Stahnsdorf. BSV Wulfen will meet at home Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against SC Rasta Vechta (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
