Mexico failed in the first round in Guadalajara. The host of Panamerican Games 2011 was defeated by Puerto Rico 69-73. Both teams are placed to Preliminary Group A at this event. Other participants of this pool are Canada and Argentina. Renaldo Balkman paced Puerto Rico to victory with 18 points and 5 rebounds.
