Regular Season Round 7: Challans - Cognac 98-85

The game between third ranked Cognac (5-2) and ninth ranked Vendee Challans (4-3) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Cognac was defeated by Vendee Challans in Challans 98-85. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Cognac. The game was mostly controlled by Vendee Challans. Cognac managed to win fourth quarter 29-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vendee Challans shot 30 for 40 from the free-throw line, while Cognac only scored thirteen points from the stripe. They outrebounded Cognac 41-27 including 19 on the offensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Vendee Challans especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. 33 personal fouls committed by Cognac helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for point guard Regis Boissie (180-78) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!). Center Nils Gouacide (208-84) helped adding 18 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side guard Jonathan Godin (185-82) responded with 20 points, 6 assists and 5 steals and American center Ian Caskill (207-81, college: JMU) scored 15 points and 9 rebounds. Five Vendee Challans and four Cognac players scored in double figures. Cognac's coach Philippe Maucourant rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vendee Challans maintains ninth place with 4-3 record, which they share with Chartres. Newly promoted Cognac dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with 6 other teams. Vendee Challans is looking forward to face Angers BC 49 (#11) on the road in the next round. Cognac will play against Roche (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
