There was no surprise when 5th ranked Monthey (3-3) was defeated on the road by second ranked Geneve Lions (5-1) 69-55 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Geneve Lions led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. Geneve Lions outrebounded Monthey 41-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Geneve Lions made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American forward Sean Barnette (195-86, college: Wingate, agency: Warren Sports International) who led his team to a victory scoring 8 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. Senegalese power forward Babacar Toure (205-85) helped adding 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Terry Smith (185-86, college: Mercyhurst) responded with 15 points and international power forward Jonathan Dubas (201-91) scored 9 points and 8 rebounds. Monthey's coach Petar Aleksic rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Geneve Lions maintains second place with 5-1 record behind leader Fribourg, which they share with Lugano Tigers. Monthey lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with SAV Vacallo. Geneve Lions will meet at home Starwings (#6) in the next round. Monthey will play against SAV Vacallo in Chiasso and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
