There was an upset in Auckland where second-best New Zealand Breakers (5-2) were defeated by seventh ranked Wollongong Hawks (3-5) 81-63 on Friday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-63. Wollongong Hawks made 24-of-31 free shots (77.4 percent) during the game. New Zealand Breakers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Rhys Martin (193-86, college: Nova SE) who scored 20 points. The former international swingman Glen Saville (197-76) chipped in 7 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Fiji-New Zealand forward Mika Vukona (197-82) who recorded 6 points and 12 rebounds and the former international guard CJ Bruton (188-75, college: Indian Hills CC) added 10 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wollongong Hawks moved-up to sixth place. Loser New Zealand Breakers still keep top position with two games lost. Wollongong Hawks will face league's leader Perth Wildcats at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. New Zealand Breakers will play against Cairns Taipans.
