Regular Season Round 6: Canberra C. - West Coast 100-65
Date: November 13, 2011
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked West Coast Waves (1-7) were rolled over on the road by ninth ranked Canberra Capitals (2-7) 100-65 on Sunday. The game without a history. Canberra Capitals led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Canberra Capitals outrebounded West Coast Waves 44-24 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Canberra Capitals looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by West Coast Waves' players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Canberra Capitals made 7 blocks. International center Marianna Tolo (196-89) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international guard Jessica Bibby (169-79) chipped in 21 points during the contest. Four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Rohanee Cox (182-80) with 18 points and 9 rebounds and guard Nikita-Lee Martin (184-88) scored 18 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Canberra Capitals moved-up to eighth place. Loser West Coast Waves dropped to the ninth position with seven games lost. Canberra Capitals will face bottom-ranked AIS (#10) in Belconnen in the next round. West Coast Waves will play at home against Bulleen Boomers in Melbourne.
