Regular Season Round 9: Fabriano - Upea CdO 86-80

There was a minor upset when 3rd placed Orlandina (5-4) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Fabriano (1-8) 86-80 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Orlandina won fourth quarter 32-29. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fabriano made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Orlandina turnovers. Forward Giorgio Sgobba (202-92) stepped up and scored 23 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Mario Gigena (198-77) chipped in 18 points. The best for the losing side was forward Thomas De Min (203-86) with 16 points (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and forward Nicholas Crow (199-89) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Fabriano maintains sixth place with 1-8 record. Orlandina at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still keeps top position with four games lost. Fabriano will face league's second-placed Recanati on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Orlandina will play against the league's leader Napoli and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
