Regular Season Round 11: Dnipro - Azovmash 82-79

The most exciting game of round 11 in the Superleague took place in Dnepropetrovsk. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of second-ranked Azovmash (8-3) to fifth ranked Dnipro (8-4) 82-79 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Azovmash. Azovmash cut a 16-point halftime deficit to three at the end of the game. They outrebounded Azovmash 49-30 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Azovmash helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for American forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds. International guard Steven Burtt (185-84, college: Iona) helped adding 21 points and 4 assists. American swingman Ricky Minard (196-82, college: Morehead St.) responded with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks and the former international center Oleksiy Pecherov (213-85) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Azovmash's coach Aco Petrovic tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Dnipro have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with BC Donetsk. Azovmash at the other side keeps the second position with three games lost. Dnipro is looking forward to face Ferro-ZNTU (#9) in Zaporozhye in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Azovmash will play on the road against DniproAzot (#12) in Dniprodzerzhynsk and is hoping to win this game.
