Very expected game when 6th ranked Niigata Albirex (4-5) lost at home to first ranked Akita Happinets (9-2) 92-75 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 92-75. Akita Happinets outrebounded Niigata Albirex 58-44 including a 45-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a very good performance for American guard Michael Gardener (182-81, college: SE Louisiana) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Dutch-American power forward Stanley Ocitti (203-80, college: Binghamton) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Akita Happinets players scored in double figures. American power forward Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont) answered with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 18 rebounds and the other American import forward Erron Maxey (198-78, college: Providence) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Niigata Albirex. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Akita Happinets. They maintain first place with 9-2 record. Niigata Albirex at the other side dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Akita Happinets will have a break next round. Niigata Albirex will play again at home against the league's leader Akita Happinets (#1).
