Eleventh-ranked Barcelos (1-5) made lots of trouble for top-ranked Benfica (6-0) on Saturday. The visitors from Benfica managed to secure only five-point victory 85-80. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-19. But Barcelos won second period 20-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening, at least not yet. The game turned upside-down in the last quarter, where Barcelos used huge pressure winning it 24-20 getting a tie at the end of regular time. They lost eventually overtime period 5-10. They outrebounded Barcelos 53-32 including a 42-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Barcelos were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Sergio Ramos (200-75) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. International forward Heshimu Evans (198-75, college: Kentucky) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Benfica's coach Carlos Lisboa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Mozambican guard Augusto Matos (186-90) who recorded 22 points and center Joao Moreira (200-85) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four Barcelos players scored in double figures. Benfica have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Newly promoted Barcelos keep the eleventh place with five games lost. Benfica will face Academica (#8) in Coimbra in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Barcelos will play at home against Vitoria SC in Guimaraes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
