Maccabi Ashdod (#9) forced the game against Maccabi Haifa (#8) into an overtime, but lost by one point 85-86 on Sunday night. The game took place in Ashdod. But the guests from Haifa were better at the end. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 15-13 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 1-point victory in overtime. Maccabi Haifa made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American forward Sean Williams (208-86, college: Boston Coll.) who saved his team from a defeat with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Naturalized American swingman Sylven Landesberg (198-90, college: Virginia) contributed with 24 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Maccabi Haifa and five Maccabi Ashdod players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa (3-3) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hapoel Holon. Maccabi Ashdod lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with four games lost. Maccabi Haifa will face league's second-placed Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Hapoel Holon (#6).
