Regular Season Round 6: Alcamo - Umbertide 48-49
Date: November 20, 2011
Bottom-ranked Alcamo (0-6) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to fourth ranked Umbertide (5-1) 49-48. Alcamo was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 14-7 third quarter run of Umbertide. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Alcamo to just 7 points in third and fourth quarters. It was a good game for the former international guard Francesca Zara (177-76, agency: Players Group) who saved her team from a defeat with 12 points. Montenegrin power forward Milica Jovanovic (189-89) contributed with 11 points for the winners. Umbertide's coach Lorenzo Serventi allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Romanian forward Simina Mandache (185-81) replied with 11 points and Polish center Patrycja Gulak-Lipka (192-82, college: Massachusetts) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Alcamo. Umbertide keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Taranto and Lucca. Alcamo at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Umbertide's next round opponent will be Cagliari CUS (#10) at home and are hoping to win another game. Alcamo will play against Priolo and hopes to get finally their first victory.
