Regular Season Round 6: Marousi - Panionios 67-69

Bottom-ranked Marousi (0-6) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their sixth consecutive match to fourth ranked Panionios (5-1) 69-67. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Marousi won fourth quarter 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panionios made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Marousi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for American forward Alex Stepheson (205-87, college: USC) who led his team to a victory with 10 points and 6 rebounds. The other American import point guard William Keys (188-77, college: N.Mexico St.) contributed with 12 points for the winners. Panionios' coach Giorgos Bartzokas used entire bench in such tough game. Guard Yannis Gagaloudis (192-78) replied with 18 points and 5 assists (went 12 for 12 at the free throw line !!!) and the former international forward Nestoras Kommatos (203-77) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Marousi. Panionios have an impressive five-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiakos. Marousi at the other side still closes the standings with six games lost. Panionios' next round opponent will be Ikaros (#11) in Kalitheas and are hoping to win another game. Marousi will play on the road against AGOR in Rethymno and hopes to get finally their first victory.
