The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Charleville-Mezieres as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Souffelweyersheim) loss. Charleville-Mezieres defeated 9th ranked Vendee Challans at home 78-72. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-10. But Vendee Challans won second period 20-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Vendee Challans 42-26 including a 32-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Cyril Guillarme (206-84) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American-British power forward Tafari Toney (203-86, agency: JEMsports) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds during the contest. Four Charleville-Mezieres players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Josh Almanson (205-82, college: Bowling Green) responded with 26 points and 5 rebounds and forward Fabien Herard (198-79) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Charleville-Mezieres have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with St Quentin and Cognac. Vendee Challans at the other side keeps the ninth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Vendee Challans will play next round against strong Sorgues trying to get back on the winning streak. Charleville-Mezieres will try to continue on its current victory against seventh ranked Roche on the road.
