Regular Season Round 7: Barreirense - Lusitania 80-73

Rather predictable result when third ranked Barreirense CEPSA (5-2) won against 5th ranked Lusitania (3-2) in Barreiro 80-73 on Sunday. Lusitania was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 5-point lead after three quarters before a 23-11 charge of Barreirense CEPSA, which allowed them to win the game. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Cavel Witter (183-87, college: Creighton) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Anthony Hill (204-88, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) accounted for 14 points for the winning side. Forward Mohamed Camara (196-83) came up with 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and American point guard Ricky Franklin (185-87, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 23 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Lusitania in the defeat. Five Barreirense CEPSA and four Lusitania players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Barreirense CEPSA. They maintain third place with 5-2 record having just two points less than leader Benfica. Loser Lusitania dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Barreirense CEPSA will meet bottom-ranked Ginasio (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Lusitania will play against Academica (#8) in Coimbra and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
