Regular Season Round 5: Olimpia - TTT Riga 71-65

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Latvian TTT Riga (4-1) in Grodno on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Belarusian Olimpia GrGAU (3-0) 71-65. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of TTT Riga. It was a key game for the top position in the league as both teams had the same 2-0 record before this meeting. TTT Riga trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 13-6 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 65-71 at the end of the game. They outrebounded TTT Riga 44-33 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Russian-Ukrainian center Lyubov Alyoshkina (203-81) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. Forward Natallia Kozun (189-88) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Olimpia GrGAU's coach Aliaksandr Shimkovyak used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Gunta Basko (181-80, college: Siena, agency: Josep and Nicolas) produced 23 points and 4 steals and swingman Ieva Krastina (175-90, agency: LBM Management) added 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Olimpia GrGAU have a solid series of three victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Tim-Scuf and Minsk-2006. Defending Latvian champion TTT Riga still keeps top place with one game lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
