Regular Season Round 8: Ft.Wayne MA - Springfield A. 91-94

Date: December 9, 2011
The Fort Wayne Mad Ants fell to the Springfield Armor 94-91 in overtime at the Memorial Coliseum. Despite both teams losing some of their starters to various NBA training camps, the two teams battled to the final buzzer. After a tightly contested opening 12 minutes of play the two teams were tied up and the end of the period. Defense reigned supreme in the opening frame as the Armor held Fort Wayne to 36 percent shooting from the field, but the Mad Ants countered by forcing Springfield into eight turnovers. The Armor went on a 6-0 run midway through the second quarter to build a lead. Corey Allmond started a 10-0 run in response for the Mad Ants when he hit a much needed three-pointer to halt the Armor’s momentum. Fort Wayne led 49-42 at the half. The Armor outplayed the Mad Ants in the third to take a three-point advantage. The Mad Ants battled back in the fourth and built a 5 point lead with 2:00 left in the game. Lance Hurdle took over for the Amor hitting a 3 pointer and with 1.4 seconds left in regulation banked in a 10-foot jumper to tie the game and send it to overtime. Lance Hurdle kept his hot hand from regulation and continued to carry the Armor in the overtime period. Led by Hurdle, the Armor outlasted Fort Wayne and a last-second three point shot attempt to win. Corey Allmond led the Mad Ants with a game-high 32 points, and Marvin Phillips finished with 24 for Fort Wayne. Lance Hurdle paced the Armor with 27 points, and Jonathan Thomas chipped in with a game-high six blocked shots. *Courtesy www.wane.com
