Regular Season Round 9: Iowa E. - Sioux Falls S. 103-89
Date: December 10, 2011
Michael Tveidt was in stitches for his birthday. Thomas Baudinet started a fast break with his knee and finished it with a quasi-dunk. Both players helped the Iowa Energy sew up a 103-89 victory over Sioux Falls on Saturday before an announced crowd of 3,152 at Wells Fargo Arena. “I went face to face with another guy over there,” Tveidt said of a collision Friday with the Skyforce’s Ryan Anderson that left blood all over the court. “We actually went to the same clinic. We rode together. We got stitched up together.” On Saturday, with a white bandage concealing 22 stitches on his left cheekbone, Tveidt scored 13 points on his 24th birthday and helped Iowa overcome first-half turnovers to earn a weekend sweep of Sioux Falls. He planned to celebrate the victory — and his birthday —with teammates, since his family is all back in his native South Dakota. “They’re all in Sioux Falls, actually, so it’s kind of fun to beat up on these guys,” Tveidt said. Baudinet, a 6-foot-2 guard known for his long-range shooting, led Iowa (5-3) with 21 points and 39 minutes of play. He nailed three 3-pointers, but also showed some quickness and moxie. He displayed both on the same play late in the game after Sioux Falls (1-5) trimmed the Energy lead to three points. Baudinet stole a pass, became tangled with a Skyforce player, gathered control of the ball with the help of his kneecap, then was off to the races. “I got a hand on it, and he got a hand on it,” Baudinet said. “So when he deflected it, it hit off my knee. I was doing my Harlem Globetrotters. But thankfully, I got control of it.” Nearing the basket, Baudinet leaped as if to dunk, then laid the ball in off the front rim. “We’ll call it a hard layup,” Energy coach Kevin Young joked. “I’ll have a better one next time,” Baudinet promised. Baudinet, who played at Division II St. Anselm, impressed Young at an Energy tryout camp in Washington, D.C. He worked his way onto the team, and into the starting lineup, by showing he can do more than just spot up and shoot. “He’s one of those guys where, every time he shoots it, you think it’s going in. He exudes confidence,” Young said. “He’s quicker than he gets credit for. He’s tougher than he gets credit for. He sticks his nose in there.” Tveidt proved that sticking your nose in there can be painful. Baudinet had better luck using his knee. *Courtesy of https://dmjuice.desmoinesregister.com
