Regular Season Round 9: Batumi - Armia 68-102

Superleague top team - Armia (8-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Batumi (0-8) 102-68. The game was mostly controlled by Armia. Batumi was better in second period 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Batumi's 26. They outrebounded Batumi 46-21 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Armia players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Batumi's players. American point guard Ben Woodside (180-85, college: N.Dakota St., agency: Priority Sports) nailed 19 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side and his fellow American import swingman Jeremy Richardson (200-84, college: Delta St.) accounted for 13 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Armia's coach Kote Tugushi felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Ivane Maisuradze (194-85) came up with 21 points and point guard Irakli Mikeladze (179-94) added 14 points and 7 assists respectively for Batumi in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Armia. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-0 record. Batumi lost their eighth game in a row. They still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with Rustavi. Armia's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Sokhumi.
