Regular Season Round 10: Idaho S. - Bakersfield J. 118-98
Date: December 14, 2011
Seven games into the season, Idaho Stampede coach Randy Livingston has rewarded forward Reggie Larry with a starting role and center Will Foster with extended playing time. Good moves. Both players figured heavily in the Stampede’s 118-98 win over the Bakersfield Jam on Wednesday night at CenturyLink Arena. Larry, a former Boise State standout, went 9-for-12 from the field and tied a game-high with 19 points. Foster, meanwhile, notched 16 points and 11 rebounds. “It’s been a while,” Foster said of his double-double. “I don’t even know what that feels like anymore.” He does now. And Larry knows what it feels like to contribute to a team that he’s been following for years. “I’ve watched the Stampede and been in this crowd, and I’ve always wanted a chance to play here,” he said. “Randy has put me in the position I’m in, and the only thing I can do is play as hard as I can.” Livingston sounds like a proud father when addressing the two. On Larry: “I’ve rewarded him and started him, and good things have happened.” As for Foster: “Every time he comes into the game good things happen. Most big guys can’t play in this league because it’s so fast. But he can play and protect the rim.” Foster never really found his role in his four years at Gonzaga, which is why Livingston called the big man a project during training camp. “He’s not a project anymore,” Livingston said. “He’s earning his minutes.” The Jam (5-2) came into the game sitting atop the NBA Development League’s West Conference. The Stampede (3-4), meanwhile, were several rungs down the conference ladder, but they showed they can now play with the league’s elite teams when they’re clicking. “I feel like we’re … coming into ourselves,” Larry said. “We’re starting to get the feel for each other and we’re playing for each other.” Idaho got out to a fast start thanks to guard Cheyne Gadson, who was perfect from the field in the first quarter. He was 3-for-3 from 3-point range and 5-for-5 overall on his way to a 15-point opening frame. He finished with 19 points and five assists. “He’s becoming the leader we need him to be,” Livingston said. *Courtesy of www.idahostatesman.com
