Regular Season Round 11: Ft.Wayne MA - Iowa E. 88-95

The Iowa Energy saw seven players reach double digits as they beat the Fort Wayne Mad Ants 95-88 in the Fort Wayne War Memorial Coliseum. Iowa built a double-digit lead early in the contest and kept that advantage for most of the game on the strength of better than 50 percent shooting while holding Fort Wayne to only 34 percent. Iowa stormed out of the gate with hot shooting that opened up an 11-2 score in the first three and a half minutes of the contest. Thomas Baudinet hit all seven shots he attempted in the first quarter finishing the frame with 12 points for the Energy. Iowa finished the first quarter shooting 70 percent from the field and ended the quarter with a seven point advantage. The Energy continued with their strong shooting and stronger defense by holding the Mad Ants to 33 percent shooting. Gage Daye brought a spark off the bench for the Mad Ants as he contributed much needed energy as well as 11 points. Iowa took a 56-47 lead into the half. Iowa’s defensive intensity continued to stifle the Mad Ants as the Energy extended their lead to 12 points by the end of the third quarter. After holding a double-digit lead for most of the game, Iowa‘s lead dropped into single digits midway through the fourth quarter. The teams traded baskets for much of the final frame before the Mad Ants chipped the lead down to six points with under a minute to play, but the Energy held on for the 95-88 victory. Rookie Cameron Jones led the Mad Ants with 20 points, and Marvin Phillips recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
