Regular Season Round 11: Tulsa 66ers - Reno B. 88-105

Date: December 16, 2011
Dressed in green uniforms, the visiting Reno Bighorns certainly played the part of the Grinch on Friday night inside the Tulsa Convention Center. Reno outscored the Tulsa 66ers 30-14 in the fourth quarter, including a 13-2 run to open the period, helping the Bighorns notch a 105-88 decision in an NBA Development League West Conference clash. "We gave up defensively," said Tulsa head coach Dale Osbourne. "I think our inexperience caught up with us and we got a little tired. But you have to give Reno credit as well. They really turned it up and we didn't match that." With four 66ers in various NBA training camps, Tulsa (5-4) had just nine players in uniform on Friday night. Five of those scored in double figures, with Brady Morningstar pacing Tulsa with 21 points. The former University of Kansas guard, however, was limited to just two points in the final quarter. "This is a transition league and you never know who you're going to have," Osbourne said. "I hope our guys who are in (NBA) training camps stay up there. I've told our players who are still with us that this is an opportunity for them to continue to learn and get better." Reno (3-4) was led by a season-high 28 points from center Christopher Ayer, who had 12 of his points in the fourth quarter, including six of Reno's first eight points of the period to stake the Bighorns to an 83-74 lead and force a Tulsa timeout with 9:22 remaining. Tulsa would pull within 90-86 on a pair of free throws from Billy Rush with 4:38 to play, but the Bighorns would answer with a 9-0 run to take back the momentum. Rush would finish with 16 points while LaDustin Williams would add 14 points off the bench. The 66ers led 49-46 at halftime and stretched that lead to eight points midway through the third quarter before Reno went on a 14-2 run to take the lead for the first time since the opening quarter. Note: Nolan Richardson III, grandson of former University of Tulsa and Tulsa Shock head coach Nolan Richardson, was signed on Friday by the 66ers. The 6-2 guard attended Tulsa local tryouts in October and competed at 66ers training camp in November. He went scoreless in 3:37 of action against Reno. *Courtesy of www.tulsaworld.com
