D League
Regular Season Round 11: Bakersfield J. - Los Angeles D. 117-112
Date: December 16, 2011
With the shot clock winding down and the Jam down 112-111, Osiris Eldridge let fly a 3-pointer with a defender all over him, and it went down to give Bakersfield a 114-112 lead with 13.7 seconds left in the game. Eldridge tacked on three more free throws to finish with 52 points on the night, and it ignited the Jam to a 117-112 win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders at a sold out and loud Jam Events Center on a memorable Friday night. The 52 points was an NBA Development League season high, a Jam all-time record, a personal best for Eldridge in all levels of basketball, and came within a single point of matching the D-League record of 53 set last year by Will Conroy. The win (6-2) puts the Jam in first place in the Western Conference, while holding the best record in the league. When asked to talk about his effort and contribution for the game, Eldridge had this to say, “I think tonight, I did a good job of attacking the basket first, and it just led to the 3-ball going up and a lot of shots going in.” When talking about his personal high scoring game, he offered, “The most I ever scored in a game was 36 points, like twice, when I was in Europe and then when I was in college.” He pointed out that he felt like he was in a zone, saying, “I felt I had a step on the person that was guarding me, but I was just feeling it, you know, you get in that zone sometimes and you feel like you can make every shot, and that’s how I felt tonight.” He went on to credit his teammates for the game, and specifically in the closing moments, saying, “There was a lot of players other than me down the stretch that contributed to the win. It was just a great team effort down the stretch.” Indeed, down the stretch and in crunch time several players had a hand in the win, and even though the 52 point outburst tops the list, the Jam still placed five players in double figure scoring for the game. David Palmer had another productive night with 17 points and 14 rebounds, and Juan Patillo chipped in with 14 points and nine rebounds. Mustapha Farrakhan scored all 14 of his points when it mattered most, in the second half, and also tallied six assists. Anthony Harris continued to provide a big spark off the bench with 13 points and five assists. Brandon Costner led Los Angeles in scoring with 36 points, and in his first game with the D-Fenders, Orien Greene finished with 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Eniel Polynice contributed 19 points and nine assists, while Otis George finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Terrence Roberts added 11 points and blocked five shots. The game was hard fought from beginning to end, with neither side holding more than an eight point lead. In all, there were 13 ties and 22 lead changes, and the two squads face each other again in a back to back Saturday evening at the Toyota Sports Center. Is there an encore performance by Mr. Eldridge in order?, tune in and find out.
