There was a surprise result in Dniprodzerzhynsk where thirteenth ranked DniproAzot (4-14) defeated higher ranked Hoverla (11-6) 73-59 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by DniproAzot. Hoverla was better in fourth quarter 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international center Volodymyr Gurtovoy (207-75) stepped up and scored 19 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and forward Sergiy Gorbenko (202-85) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. American point guard Marcus Walker (186-86, college: Colorado St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) responded with 17 points and the other American import point guard Dante Swanson (178-81, college: Tulsa, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) scored 12 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. DniproAzot moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Kryvbasbasket. Hoverla at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. DniproAzot will face higher ranked Mykolaiv (#11) in Mykolaiv in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hoverla will play at home against the league's second-placed Azovmash (#2) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
