Regular Season Round 19: Ferro-ZNTU - Azovmash 88-86

A very close game took place in Zaporozhye between Ferro-ZNTU and Azovmash. Eighth ranked Ferro-ZNTU (12-9) got a very close home victory over much higher ranked Azovmash (13-6). Ferro-ZNTU managed to escape with a 2-point win 88-86 on Friday evening. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Azovmash won fourth quarter 25-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ferro-ZNTU looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Randy Culpepper (182-89, college: UTEP) who led the winners and scored 37 points (!!!). His fellow American import guard Jeremy Chappell (191-87, college: Robert Morris, agency: Hart Sports Mngm) accounted for 18 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. The former international guard Artur Drozdov (199-80) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and American swingman Ricky Minard (196-82, college: Morehead St.) added 25 points respectively for Azovmash in the defeat. Azovmash's coach Gintaras Krapikas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Ferro-ZNTU moved-up to sixth place. Loser Azovmash dropped to the third position with six games lost. Ferro-ZNTU will meet at home DniproAzot (#12) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Azovmash will play against Kryvbasbasket (#13) in Krivoy Rog and hope to secure a win.
