No shocking result in a game in Helsinki where fourth ranked Torpan Pojat (12-8) defeated 8th ranked UU-Korihait (8-12) 82-74 on Friday. UU-Korihait was trailing by 11 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-16 charge of Torpan Pojat, which allowed them to win the game. Torpan Pojat outrebounded UU-Korihait 48-29 including a 31-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American guard Chase Griffin (188-83, college: Pepperdine) had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward Timo Heinonen (198-81) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Four Torpan Pojat players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Cory Johnson (200-88, college: Valparaiso, agency: Scorers 1st Sportmanagement) responded with 28 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Nigel Moore (195-81, college: Alabama A&M) scored 15 points and 7 rebounds. Torpan Pojat maintains fourth position with 12-8 record, which they share with Kauhajoki. UU-Korihait lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Salon Vilpas and LrNMKY. Torpan Pojat will meet at home KTP-Basket (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. UU-Korihait will play against Tampereen Pyrinto and hope to secure a win.
