Regular Season Round 8: Miami Heat - Charlotte B. 129-90
Date: January 1, 2012
Chris Bosh elected to celebrate LeBron James' engagement. So did Dwyane Wade. And Joel Anthony. And Mario Chalmers. James? This time he was the one who embraced the joy from the side. A night after James proposed to his longtime companion Savannah Brinson, and hours after several members of the Miami Heat discussed their elation over being there for the moment Saturday night, the after-party was a 129-90 Sunday annihilation of the Charlotte Bobcats at AmericanAirlines Arena. "This was a high school team playing in a professional game," Charlotte forward Corey Maggette said of his befuddled Bobcats. The victory raised the Heat to 5-0 for the first time in the franchise's 24 seasons. It was produced despite just one first-half basket by the man of the hour. "We came into the game trying to play with a heightened sense of athleticism," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "It starts with our disposition, our energy, our activity. We started the game out very active." The franchise's largest victory remains 43, 126-83 over the Los Angeles Clippers on Dec. 29, 1994. The Heat's only other previous 40-point victory was 113-72 March 5, 1996 against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The 129 points were the most scored in the NBA this season. "It was a lot of fun out there," Anthony said. "I didn't realize until late it got into the 40s. When I figured it out, I was like, 'Wow.' " While James finished with 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists in a hardly taxing 28 minutes, he hardly was Sunday's best man. That would have been Bosh, who picked up where he left off in Friday's 16-point second half in Minnesota. The All-Star power forward this time scored 20 in the first half and closed with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting, in addition to 10 rebounds. *Courtesy of www.sun-sentinel.com
