Regular Season Round 19: Xinjiang FT - Shanxi Zh. 100-94

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Shanxi Zhongyu's (8-9) road loss to eighth ranked Xinjiang Flying Tige (9-7) 94-100 on Sunday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 31-15. But Shanxi Zhongyu won second period 28-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Shanxi Zhongyu 55-30 including a 23-12 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shanxi Zhongyu was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Nigerian forward Gani Lawal (206-88, college: Georgia Tech) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 24 rebounds. The former international center ZhengDong Tang (213-84) helped adding 29 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Charles Gaines (201-81, college: S.Mississippi) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) and the other American import swingman Marcus Williams (201-86, college: Arizona, agency: Interperformances) scored 29 points and 4 steals. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Shanxi Zhongyu's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Xinjiang Flying Tige maintains eighth place with 9-7 record. Loser Shanxi Zhongyu dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Xinjiang Flying Tige will face Bayi Fubang (#14) in Ningbo in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
