Regular Season Round 14: BC Nokia - Lapua 76-75

The most exciting game of round 14 in the 1st Division took place in Nokia. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (9-5) to fourth ranked BC Nokia (10-4) 76-75 in the game for the third place. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Lapuan Korikobrat. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lapuan Korikobrat won fourth quarter 21-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Lapuan Korikobrat 55-33 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. American-British power forward Gerald January (201-88, college: Montevallo) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds. Guard Timo Riihela (193-80) contributed with 19 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. BC Nokia's coach Ville Tuominen used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Walter Baxley (191-84, college: Mars Hill) replied with 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Eric Williams (198-85, college: Tarleton St.) added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for Lapuan Korikobrat. BC Nokia have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Lapuan Korikobrat at the other side dropped to the fourth position with five games lost. They share it with Oulun NMKY and Pyrinto II. BC Nokia are looking forward to face Oulun NMKY (#4) at home in the next round. Lapuan Korikobrat will play against the league's leader Forssan Koripojat and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
