Regular Season Round 24: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Meresta 83-78

There was no surprise in Kaunas where 12th ranked Meresta (10-14) was defeated by eighth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (14-10) 83-78 on Saturday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Meresta won third quarter 23-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris-Sabonio looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was forward Marius Grigonis (194-94) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists. Forward Vaidas Kariniauskas (198-93) chipped in 20 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Simonas Slivka (193-86) who recorded 28 points and 6 rebounds and center Aivaras Galkauskas (203-91) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Zalgiris-Sabonio moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Mazeikiai. Loser Meresta keeps the twelfth position with 14 games lost. Zalgiris-Sabonio will meet Statyba (#9) in the next round. Meresta will have a break next round.
