Regular Season Round 12: AIS - Sydney UF 53-62

Date: January 7, 2012
Very expected game in Belconnen where 9th ranked AIS (1-14) was defeated by fourth ranked Sydney Uni Flames (10-5) 62-53 on Saturday. AIS trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 14-9 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 53-62 at the end of the game. Sydney Uni Flames forced 29 AIS turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Amy Denson (186-84, college: Arizona St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Belinda Snell (181-81) who added 19 points and 4 steals during the contest. The best for the losing side was forward Olivia Thompson (185-93) with 11 points and 8 rebounds and center Carley Mijovic (197-94) scored 13 points. AIS's coach Phil Brown tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Sydney Uni Flames moved-up to third place. AIS lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with 14 games lost. Sydney Uni Flames will face league's second-placed Bulleen Boomers in Melbourne in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. AIS will play on the road against Townsville Fire (#4).
