Regular Season Round 27: Idaho S. - Los Angeles D. 113-107
Date: January 13, 2012
In the seconds before the final buzzer Saturday night, Idaho Stampede guard Tony Bobbitt walked over to the franchise’s managing partner, Bill Ilett, seated in the front row, for a hug. It was Bobbitt that deserved the hug. The veteran guard scored the Stampede’s final 11 points, including three 3-pointers, to cap Idaho’s 113-107 victory against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Friday night at Century-Link Arena. The second of Bobbitt’s three consecutive 3-pointers gave the Stampede their first lead since the first half. “That’s what I’m in for is to knock down shots,” said Bobbitt, who finished with a game-high 21 points and made 5-of-8 3-point attempts. “That’s my slogan: I get paid to make shots.” Idaho (8-11) and Los Angeles (15-7) play again Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena. The loss snapped L.A.’s seven-game winning streak. The D-Fenders led by as many as 18 in the third quarter, but the Stampede’s second unit brought Idaho back in the fourth quarter. The bench scored 60 points, including 17 from Terrico White. Point guard Armon Johnson had 14 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, including assists on all three of Bobbitt’s late-game treys. “Let’s give all the credit to the second team. The second team brought us back,” Bobbitt said. In a season of roster changes — Idaho has used 21 players — Bobbitt is the only player to have appeared in all 19 games. He was on the bench for most of the fourth quarter, but Idaho coach Randy Livingston put him in with 3 minutes to play. And the veteran rewarded Livingston by pushing the Stampede over the top. “I saw he was itching to get in. I thought we needed another floor spacer that could make shots and Tony has made big shots throughout his career,” Livingston said. “When he shoots the ball, I expect it to go in all the time.” *Courtesy of www.idahostatesman.com
